Dental Veneers – What to Expect

Veneers are tooth-coloured overlays that can be placed on the front of your teeth to improve the aesthetics of your smile, or correct some minor orthodontic problems. They are a cost effective and non-invasive way of improving your smile.

The procedure for placing veneers is very straight forward. We have listed some of the steps below to give you an idea of what is involved in the process.

  • Preparation may involve removing a thin layer of your natural tooth so that the veneers do not appear bulky once they are placed. This is done under a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable.
  • The dentist will then take an impression of your teeth which can be sent to the dental laboratory where your veneers will be hand-crafted by a technician. This will take about two weeks. In the meantime your teeth will be protected with temporary veneers made chairside.
  • If you are short of time Apple Dental can also create veneers in-house using CEREC, which is a Computer Aided Design program and milling machine which allows us to create veneers and crowns in one appointment, without the need for impressions or temporary veneers.
  • Once the veneers have been made they will be bonded in place by your dentist, leaving you with a beautiful new smile.
