Veneers
Are you looking for an excellent cosmetic option for crooked, chipped, stained or discoloured teeth? Dental veneers can restore or improve your smile with excellent colour, shape and size, to create a flawless, perfect smile line.
What are Dental Veneers?
A dental veneer is a thin, hardwearing layer of ceramic which is bonded to the surfaces of your front teeth. Porcelain dental veneers can be constructed by our specialist dental technician or with our single-visit CEREC technology. Porcelain is the ideal material for dental veneers as it’s strong, durable and beautiful, with the natural translucency of tooth enamel to better reflect light for a flawless and natural-looking result.
Dental Veneers Process
To prepare your teeth for your new dental veneers, we begin by lightly sanding them to remove a tiny amount of their surface material, ensuring your comfort by providing you with local anaesthetic.
In the next stage, we digitally scan your newly prepared teeth, using this information to create a virtual model of your mouth and teeth in our advanced CAD/CAM machine. Our single-visit CEREC technology is a great time saver for you, allowing us to create and fit your new porcelain dental veneers without the need for a temporary tooth restoration, while you wait for your final veneers to be created off-site.
The computer-controlled CEREC machine will mill your new veneers out of solid porcelain, precisely crafting them for a perfect fit. The Apple Dental team will then place them on your prepared teeth, checking to ensure both you and your dentist are completely happy. At this stage we can trim the veneers and adjust their colour for the ideal end result.
Made from high grade porcelain to precisely match our requested shape and colour specifications, your veneer will last for many years to come, restoring your confidence and self-esteem, and improving your quality of life.
What are the benefits of dental veneers?
If you’d like to improve the appearance of a gappy, uneven, or heavily stained smile, porcelain dental veneers from Apple Dental could be an ideal solution. Veneers not only give you a more natural looking, straighter smile, their preparation doesn’t involve much of your natural tooth being removed. The end result is brighter, more attractive smile you won’t be able to resist showing off!
When Should You Steer Towards Dental Veneers?
Dental veneers are extremely versatile, require minimal tooth preparation and can often be an alternative to other cosmetically oriented treatments. So when might they be a better choice and why?
Choosing Veneers Instead of Crowns
Both crowns and veneers can be great at hiding defects in teeth, but it is only necessary to have a crown if a tooth is badly damaged. Otherwise a veneer could be a preferable choice and will preserve more of the healthy tooth structure. Veneers are great for covering up teeth that are too small or oddly shaped and for closing up or minimising spaces in between teeth.
Choosing Veneers Instead of Tooth Whitening
Not all teeth can be whitened effectively and if you have one or two teeth that are internally stained then we might suggest covering them up with veneers. The great thing about veneers is that they will not change shade, so the results will be long-lasting.
Veneers Instead of Orthodontics
Braces are a very conservative way to straighten teeth, but if you only have one or two teeth out of position or rotated and which could maybe benefit from being reshaped, then veneers could be a faster and more preferable solution.
Our veneers are made from the highest quality porcelains and can look fabulous. When you visit Apple Dental, we will always recommend options we feel will produce the very best and most conservative results.
Frequently asked questions
Porcelain veneers are an extremely durable, strong restorative option. With care, they can last for up to a decade when professionally bonded to your teeth by the Apple Dental team.
After first preparing your teeth by removing a tiny amount of tooth enamel, your teeth are digitally scanned, creating a virtual 3-D model of your mouth. Our dentist uses specialised software to custom-design your veneers before sending this design to our CEREC machine, so your veneers may be created using the latest computerised technology. The veneers are made from a block of pre-shaded, high-quality porcelain, creating restorations that are strong, beautiful and durable. Once completed, your veneers will be fitted and bonded in place so there is no need for a second visit.
You should avoid doing things that can damage your natural tooth enamel, including chewing your fingernails or on a pen, and avoid biting down directly on hard foods, which is a sure way to damage your new dental veneers.
Always wear a custom-fitted mouthguard when playing contact sport, to protect your veneers from sports injury. And naturally, take care to protect both your veneers and your teeth with thorough at-home oral hygiene, including brushing twice a day and flossing every day.
The thin, tooth-shaped shells are securely bonded to your teeth with dental cement, to give your new porcelain veneers outstanding strength. To ensure your new veneers don’t protrude from the rest of your smile, we may remove a very thin layer of tooth enamel before placement.
No. Because dental veneers are highly resistant to stains, you will be able to consume red wine, coffee or tea without worrying about damaging the look of your brilliant new smile.
When properly cared for, your dental veneers should last you for between 7 and 20 years. It’s important that you take care of your underlying natural teeth and the surrounding gums, which are still susceptible to gum disease. Be sure to maintain an excellent oral hygiene routine at home, and attend regular checkups with Apple Dental.
