A dazzling white smile is something most of us long for, but stains and discolouration – whether from coffee, tea, red wine, smoking, or medications – can leave our teeth looking far from pearly white. In recent years, there’s been a huge increase in DIY teeth whitening products that promise incredible instant results. However, could these DIY products actually be doing more harm than good? And, if so, what’s the best way to whiten your teeth safely and effectively?

If you’re seeking a safe way to get a beautiful white smile, read on to discover the facts about teeth whitening.

The Dark Side of DIY Teeth Whitening

If you’ve seen the many ads on social media for products like charcoal toothpaste, whitening strips, and UV kits, you may view DIY teeth whitening products as a quick and simple fix for getting rid of stains and achieving a brilliant white smile. However, opting for a non-professional teeth whitening treatment can expose your teeth and gums to significant damage.

Here are some of the issues that dentists are increasingly seeing due to DIY teeth whitening:

  • Burns to gums: The bleaches contained in DIY whitening products can cause damage and burning to the gums, particularly if used repeatedly.
  • Damage to dental enamel: The natural coating of enamel on your teeth is there to protect them, but DIY whitening products can strip away this protective layer and leave teeth exposed.
  • Increased pain and sensitivity: Excessive use of teeth whitening products such as whitening strips can cause teeth and gums to become more sensitive and painful.
  • Spotted or patchy teeth: Whitening products such as UV kits can produce patchy results due to an uneven spread of bleach – not exactly the dazzling look you were hoping for!

So how do you achieve a stunning white smile without putting your oral health at risk? Your dentist has the answer…

Professional Teeth Whitening: It’s Safe, Convenient, and It Works

When you opt for a professional teeth whitening treatment from your dentist, you can rest assured that the process will be safe and effective. But did you know that professional teeth whitening can also be extremely fast and convenient?

At Apple Dental’s state-of-the-art Lane Cove practice, you can choose from our in-chair Philips Zoom! teeth whitening treatment that only takes around 90 minutes, or a customised take-home whitening kit that can be performed in the comfort of your own home, with amazing results. Whiter teeth with no fuss makes professional teeth whitening the ideal solution for a gleaming smile.

Philips Zoom! Teeth Whitening: A Dazzling Smile, Fast

As the name suggests, Philips Zoom! teeth whitening is a fast way to have your teeth professionally whitened in our dental practice, for incredible instant results. With the treatment taking around 90 minutes, this quick, simple, and effective method will leave you with a beautiful white smile in no time.

How does Philips Zoom! teeth whitening work?

Philips Zoom! in-chair teeth whitening involves the use of a special bright light and a whitening gel which whitens your teeth and reduces discolouration.

What does the treatment involve?

In the comfort of our Lane Cove practice, you’ll undergo four 15-minute rounds of in-chair whitening, with a short break in between each round. This means the total treatment time is approximately 90 minutes.

Are there any side effects of Philips Zoom! teeth whitening?

After the treatment, you may experience some sensitivity or gum irritation. However, many patients don’t experience any side effects.

At-Home Teeth Whitening: A Customised Whitening Kit That’s Safe and Effective

Looking for a safe way to whiten your teeth at home? Apple Dental offers a customised take-home solution that lets you safely whiten your teeth in the comfort of your own home. Our comfortable, custom-made trays are designed to fit perfectly over your teeth and use a special whitening gel to remove stains.

How does at-home teeth whitening work?

Our customised teeth whitening treatment uses a special concentrated whitening gel to remove stains and leave you with a brighter, whiter smile.

What does the treatment involve?

For at-home teeth whitening, we offer a choice of Day White or Nite White. Day White involves wearing the trays for 30 minutes, twice a day, while with Nite White you’ll need to wear them for 4-6 hours, ideally overnight.

This option is less invasive than our in-chair teeth whitening treatment, so if you’re a little nervous about having dental treatment, at-home whitening could be an ideal choice.

Are there any side effects of at-home teeth whitening?

As with our in-chair Philips Zoom! teeth whitening, you may experience some tooth sensitivity and gum irritation. However, by taking care to follow the instructions provided by the Apple Dental team, many patients don’t experience any side effects.

You can also combine our in-practice and at-home teeth whitening for spectacular results that last. Talk to the Apple Dental team about how you can achieve a brighter, whiter smile safely – contact us today and get the dazzling smile you’ve been dreaming of.
