Apple Dental strongly promotes the idea of having a regular and well-maintained appointment schedule for dental check-ups and cleaning. This way you will usually avoid any major dental emergencies that can be painful and sometimes expensive to fix. If you do find yourself with a dental emergency we are of course always happy to help you out. Here are some things to look out for and some tips on dealing with dental emergencies.

Toothache

Toothache can be the result of sore gums, cavities, infections and even sinus pain. If the gum around the tooth looks swollen, or if you have a facial swelling and fever it is important to come in and see us as soon as you can. Infections in the tooth can become serious and can also affect your general health. The sooner you come in to see one of the dentists the more likely they will be able to save your tooth and set you on the road to recovery.

Knocked out tooth

Teeth that have been knocked out can sometimes be successfully placed back in the mouth, however you must make sure that you place the tooth in a small container of either saline or milk and bring it into the surgery as soon as possible. You can even wrap it in cling wrap instead.

If you are confident, you can also reinsert the tooth yourself as long as you rinse it off with milk first to clean off any dirt or particles. Please NEVER use water to store or rinse your tooth.

Broken tooth

With today’s technology a broken tooth no longer needs to mean that you will be left with a chipped or gappy smile. In most cases when a tooth is broken off due to trauma it can be easily repaired using composite resin fillings or porcelain inlays, veneers or crowns. There is no need to put up with a chipped or cracked tooth when it can be easily repaired by one of our experienced dentists.
