How to Clean Around Braces
It is very important to maintain excellent oral health while you are wearing braces so that you can ensure a perfect smile at the end of your treatment. There are four easy steps to follow to ensure that your teeth and gums remain healthy:
- Rinse your mouth before you brush and floss to loosen any food debris.
- Use fluoride toothpaste and begin brushing at the gum line before angling your brush downwards to clean the top of the brackets. Next, angle your brush upwards so you clean the bottom of the brackets and wires.
- A floss threader (available from your orthodontist or local pharmacy) makes flossing much easier. Soft picks or interdental brushes can also help.
- Finish with a fluoride mouthwash for added protection.
